Do You Provide Refunds Or Warranties?
All Artisan Revere knives are guaranteed against manufacturing defects for life. If you do have an issue with your Artisan Revere knife, we’re happy to replace or fix it. Unfortunately, we can’t offer refunds on KICKSTARTER rewards, but again, we will replace or fix any manufacturing issue. Rest assured, we check and re-check at every stage in the process, so the likelihood of any defects is extremely low.
Support from our KICKSTARTER backers helps us fund production, receive invaluable feedback, and build new products. So, if there are any issues with your product, we encourage you to let us know by emailing [email protected].
All of our products have been thoroughly tested by experts and home users, and go through rigorous quality control checks at every step in the manufacturing process. Defects are possible, but very unlikely.

When Do I Choose Handle Colors? Leather Colors?
Great question. As soon as the Kickstarter campaign is over, we’ll send you a survey asking which color you’d like. It’ll also have other important questions, like where we should send the knives to and what color leather sheath you’d like.

How Do I Know When My Knife Needs To Be Sharpened?
If you notice any visible chips on the edge of your knife—or if your knife can no longer pierce a tomato with minimal pressure—it’s time to get it sharpened. If you’d like an extremely easy to use, turnkey solution, we recommend the Limited Edition Work Sharp x Artisan Revere. If not, we suggest investing in some good wet stones.

How Do I Care For My Knife?
The Artisan Revere knife is designed to be so strong, so durable, that your grandchildren can pass it down to their own children one day. Granted—this is only possible if you care for your knife properly. That means you should:
Sharpen your knife on whetstones or with the Work Sharp x Artisan Revere.
Hand wash your knife after every use with soap and warm water, and dry thoroughly before storing. A little mineral oil on the blade and handle every now and again will keep it it top shape.
Never place your knife in the dishwasher, which can ruin the blade and compromise the handle on any knife. This voids your warranty. So keep your knife away from a dishwasher.
Only use your knife to cut non-frozen foods. Don’t use it as a substitute for a hammer, can opener, screw driver, or box cutter.

Is This Knife Dishwasher Safe?
No. In fact, no high quality knife is dishwasher safe. Your dishwasher is a hurricane of scorching hot water and highly abrasive detergent―a perfect storm that can chip, dull, destroy, and warp even the strongest steel. Your dishwasher may also compromise the epoxy that helps hold together the knife handle.

Where Can I Find the Research That You Used To Design This Product?
We spent hundreds of hours collaborating with and reading the work of bladesmiths, metallurgists, durability testers, machinists, and knifemakers. We’d like to give special thanks to Dr. Larrin Thomas (PhD metallurgist and self-proclaimed knife steel nerd), Salem Straub (winner, Forged In Fire), Dan Keffeler (4x world champion, Blade Sport), and Brad Stallsmith (head of heat-treat at Peters’ Heat Treat). To the many other individuals who helped us reach this point—individuals who prefer to remain anonymous: thank you. Some of our favorite technical papers and books include:

Is This Really The First Ever Elmax Kitchen Knife?
Technically, no. There are two companies out there that have made Elmax knives in the past, and we’ve been told that one of them occasionally still does, though they are focused on outdoor knives. There are also less than a handful of custom knife makers who use Elmax, one of whom I prototyped with extensively last year. We are unaware of anyone making more than 10 Elmax chef knives per year and have yet to get detailed spec from anyone.
The knife companies are 1) Bark River Knives, a respected American manufacturer of hunting, tactical and every day carry knives, and 2) Northmen Guild, a group of makers who almost exclusively focus on outdoor knives and axes.
We’ve spoken extensively with Bark River, and they no longer use Elmax, instead, opting for a softer steel called CPM-154. In our assessment, Elmax is quite superior for what we tried to accomplish here, and we hope you’ll agree. Bark River’s focus is not on cutting performance, but rather on toughness. Their CPM-154 knives are thicker and heavier than ours.
We asked Northmen Guild some questions last week about their process, and for spec about their knives. We have yet to hear back. We suspect they may no longer be making chef knives.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
